I recently flew down from Sydney to spend a weekend in Melbourne, staying at the Hilton Melbourne South Wharf.
Arriving in Melbourne just after lunch time on a Friday, traffic was extremely forgiving which resulted in a pretty quick taxi ride (taking no longer than 20 minutes and just 25km distance) to the hotel. It was my first stay at a Hilton hotel so to be completely honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect however, as I entered the hotel lobby, I felt most welcomed when I was greeted by a couple of the hotel’s staff and was taken aback by how beautifully designed the interior of the lobby was.
Once checked-in and being assigned a room: a King Executive Suite situated on the 16th floor, I headed up to my room to check it out and unpack what I had brought with me for the weekend. The room itself was quite spacious and included a big, white and fluffy king size bed that with one look, I knew I would absolutely love; a welcome pack of goodies including fresh strawberries, macarons, chocolate truffles and sparkling water that sat on the study; a bathroom with a separate walk-in shower, bath tub and toilet, accompanied with Peter Thomas Roth amenities; complete mini bar; television; not to mention, a stunning look-out over the Yarra River and Melbourne CBD (through floor to ceiling windows, might I add).
After spending approximately half an hour in my room, there was a knock at the door: it was time for my in-room massage from the Eforea Hilton Spa! The masseuse I had was extremely professional and made me feel welcomed and comfortable, and definitely relaxed after the treatment. Prior to commencing the treatment, I was given a choice of essential oils, where I was asked to smell three essential oils with my eyes closed. The fragrance of the oils made me feel instantly relaxed and I found it a challenge picking just the one (as they were all so good!), but ended up choosing a lavender based one. When the treatment was over, I decided: what could be better than a hot bath?
The Executive Lounge:
One of the major perks of staying in an Executive Suite, is that it also includes access to the Executive Lounge located on the fourth floor of the hotel. The Executive Lounge hosts complimentary breakfast for those staying in an Executive Suite, as well as complimentary morning tea, afternoon tea and pre-dinner canapes. There are also tea and coffee facilities in the lounge, as well as complimentary computer access. The fourth floor also has an outdoor terrace which overlooks the Yarra River – a beautiful place to spend an afternoon watching the sun go down or admiring the CBD by night.
There are three restaurants at the Hilton Melbourne South Wharf: Caffe Cino, Sotano Wine + Tapas and Nuevo37. I enjoyed a drink and nibbles at Sotano Wine + Tapas and had breakfast at Nuevo37 however, didn’t get a chance to try Caffe Chino.
The first thing that caught my eye at Sotano Wine + Tapas was the extensive wine gantry suspended from the ceiling. Think wine – lots of wine.
I had breakfast on both mornings of my stay at Nuevo37. I’m a huge sucker for breakfast (I’d happily eat breakfast every meal of the day), so this is something that is a huge highlight for me! Breakfast at the Nuevo37 was served as a buffet with a variety of cereals, baked goods, savoury egg breakfasts, a selection of cold meats, cheeses and fruit, as well as tea, coffee and a range of cold beverages. In addition to all this, there was also a self-serve juicing station where you could create your own juices with pre-peeled fruit and vegetables and also order a freshly made meal (waffles, pancakes, eggs benedict or an omelette – just to name a few) with the chef in the open kitchen.
To say that I went overboard at breakfast would be a complete understatement, but I felt like I needed to try everything as it all just looked too delicious!
The Hilton Melbourne South Wharf is very conveniently situated by the Yarra River. A 10 minute stroll will find you at Crown Casino, as well as a central tram stop to get you into other parts of town.
Overall, I had an amazingly pleasant stay at the Hilton Melbourne South Wharf, and couldn’t recommend the hotel any more. The facilities were beautiful and were in great condition. The food was phenomenal and honestly, one of the best buffet breakfasts I have seen. And last but definitely not least, the hotel staff were incredibly friendly and always more than willing to go above and beyond to try and help you as best as they can.
