If you’re looking for good food, great music and art venues, and some cute and eclectic shops – look no further than South Congress (or SoCo) in Austin.
South Congress is a neighbourhood in Austin that boasts a ton of character. It starts at the Colorado River and Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge and runs due south towards Ben White Boulevard/TX-71.
A couple of my recommendations in South Congress include:
- Breakfast at South Congress Cafe; not the most vegan-friendly place I ate at in Austin, but friends I was with had the Carrot Cake French Toast and I must say, it looked pretty damn delicious! Just be sure to get there early or else you’ll be waiting at least an hour for a seat in peak time!
- Shop at Allens Boots; if you’re looking for a token souvenir in the shape and form of some cowboy boots or hat, look no further than Allens!
- Check out the food trucks on South Congress Avenue and grab a bite to eat whilst looking down the avenue with unobstructed views of the Texas State Capitol
You shouldn’t need more than half a day to check out South Congress – I’d suggest getting up early for breakfast at South Congress first, then take your time to walk off the portion sizes afterwards whilst you check out the cool stores!
