The HOPE Outdoor Gallery is one of the largest outdoor galleries in the United States.
So what’s the story behind this colourful urban jungle?
HOPE Outdoor Gallery was developed to provide muralists, graffiti artists and community groups the opportunity to display large scale art pieces driven by inspirational, positive and educational messaging – hence the name ‘HOPE’.
I visited HOPE Outdoor Gallery on one of my last days in Austin, and spent a little under an hour climbing up and down the three storey gallery. From the top, you’ll see some pretty decent views over the city of Austin – especially on a clear day.
My favourite part of visiting HOPE was spending a bit of time watching some muralists at work – and not just from the side, but from above as they were painting on the second storey which meant being able to observe from the third. A pretty cool change in perspective!
